3-wheeled scooters for kids – three wheels for the first rides
A 3-wheeled scooter has two wheels at the front and one at the back, so it stands up on its own. That makes it the most common first scooter for children from about two years, who do not yet have the balance for two wheels but want to ride like the big kids.
Steering by leaning
Your child does not steer with the bar but by leaning the body towards the side they want to go. That trains balance without the scooter falling over at a standstill, and most children get it within a few days.
The right size
Choose by height, not by age: the bar should come roughly up to the navel when your child stands next to the scooter. Check the bar height in the product description, so it fits now.
When to move to two wheels?
When your child steers without hesitation, brakes on their own and wants to go faster, it is time for a scooter on two wheels. The next step is among our kids' scooters.
Protection from the first ride on three wheels
Even with three wheels a toddler falls over at the start, while learning to steer by leaning. A light helmet from our helmets therefore belongs with the first ride, and many parents add a protection set in size 3-7 years for the first weeks. Choose the helmet by head circumference and make sure it can be tightened enough.
