Kids' scooters – the right first scooter for your child
A scooter is often the first set of wheels a child rides on their own, and the first weeks decide whether it becomes a favourite or ends up in the shed. The scooter has to fit the child today, not next year: with your child standing next to it, the bar should come between hip and navel. That is why all our scooters for kids are sorted by height, from the smallest at 75 cm to teens.
From two years: three wheels
Our 3-wheeled scooters have two wheels at the front and one at the back, so they stand up on their own and are steered by leaning. Most children manage them from around two years, and they are the usual first scooter. A balance bike trains balance in a different way and is a good alternative for the same age.
From about four years: two wheels
Once your child steers without hesitation, brakes on their own and wants to go faster, it is time for a two-wheeled scooter. For this age we recommend a light stunt scooter rather than a folding commuter scooter: the fixed bar and the small, hard wheels are easier to control, and it survives the first attempts at jumping off a kerb. You find them sorted by height under stunt scooters for 3-6 years (95-120 cm), stunt scooters for 6-9 years (120-140 cm) and stunt scooters for 9-13 years (140-160 cm). How to measure is in our size guide.
Protection from the first ride
A child who has just got their first scooter falls a few times before the balance is there. Start from day one with one of our helmets, and add a protection set with knee, elbow and wrist guards for the first months. Choose the helmet by head circumference, and make sure the straps can be tightened so it does not tip.
When the kids' sizes are outgrown
All our scooters for children, teens and adults are collected on one page, from stunt scooters for the skatepark to scooters with big wheels for the daily ride to school.
