So read on if you are curious, and learn how to make your own scooter by choosing the different components and putting them together into the scooter that works best for you and looks exactly the way you want.
Know all the components you need to make your personal custom scooter
To build your own scooter, there are some things you cannot do without. As a rule, the quality of each element goes hand in hand with the price you pay for the part. We recommend that you sit down and make a budget for how much you can or want to spend on making the perfect custom scooter your way – but if that is not quite possible, we recommend that you consider buying a complete scooter from our webshop, on which you can then replace some of the parts to suit your setup and style.
For a custom scooter built from scratch, you need at least these parts:
bar - clamp - deck - fork - griptape - headset - wheels - grips - bearings
We have different versions of several of the parts, which lets you design how your scooter should look. So make sure to choose parts in colours you think look good together. Some prefer a custom scooter where the parts stay within the same colour range, while others like contrasting colours that complement each other. Both can look really cool. But in the end it is you who chooses your style and your look – that is one of the best things about making your own scooter.
- Tips for choosing all the right parts for your custom scooter from the start
One of the most important things is to make sure the parts you buy fit together properly. When you click into the products, you can see all the technical specifications that matter when you choose parts that are compatible with each other. It is particularly important, for example, that your bar has the right diameter and that your wheels have exactly the right size for the deck and the fork you have chosen or are going to choose.
At ScootWorld our specialists in scooters and parts are of course always ready to help you choose all the right parts that fit together and give you the result you are after. So you are more than welcome to get in touch with us – either by coming into our shop in Copenhagen, where you can also see the individual parts before you buy them – or by calling us during our opening hours.
Our personal service never costs you extra, and it is your guarantee of getting the best scooter when you shop with us. We do not necessarily steer you towards what we think is cool – we help you find the product you will get the most out of and that matches your wishes and requirements. That also applies if you want help or guidance to get started making your own scooter.
- How do you build your own scooter?
Once you have decided to make your own scooter, we recommend that you start with the basics. You will of course also need some tools at hand, but all the jobs can be done with ordinary Allen keys. Your deck is what you stand on, and the element that has to carry and be in contact with most of the other parts your custom scooter consists of. So choose the deck first, as it is the skeleton for the rest of your scooter. Remember to check the different wheel sizes and specifications before you choose. Several of the models come in many different colours, which you can see by clicking into each deck in our range.
The next thing to look at and decide on is the fork. With fork and deck (and later the wheels) you have a solid foundation for the assembly of parts that has to take the heaviest loads. The fork is fitted quite simply by pushing it up through the tube at the front of your deck. Then choose your bar (also called the T-bar), which you use to steer the scooter. These too come in a wealth of colours and designs that let you make your custom scooter very personal and super cool.
- A custom scooter takes shape
At the bottom of your bar you fit the clamp, which then connects to the fork you pushed up through the headtube of your deck. Here you can choose between clamps of different strengths, represented by different numbers of bolts. The more bolts, the stronger. It is that simple. Tighten the clamp while your bar and fork are aligned. After that, all the big parts are actually assembled.
The wheels, which go on next, come in both spoked and solid designs. The wheels are often delivered with bearings and spacers, so you do not need to buy those, although it is always nice to have spare bearings in stock if you ride a lot and want a scooter that always rolls perfectly.
The last things to fit are your grips and your griptape. Choose grips that are soft and gentle on the hands if you are the type who likes to ride and push yourself for hours. Griptape is easily fitted like a big sticker on top of your deck – and then you are actually ready to roll!
